2014 Press Release

Trend Micro Continues Its Lead in Cloud Security

CEO Eva Chen Named One of Forbes Asia's 50 Power Businesswomen for a Third Consecutive Year

【Taipei, March 6, 2014】 Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704; TSE: 4704), a global leader in security software and solutions, today announced Eva Chen, CEO and Co-founder of Trend Micro, was named one of Forbes Asia's 50 Power Businesswomen, 2014, winning this accolade for the third consecutive year. To determine the final list, Forbes Asia gauged candidates from no fewer than 13 countries, including Australia and New Zealand, covering industries that range from tool-making, venture capitalism to high-tech. The selection was based on several criteria: company revenue, the woman’s position at the company, and how involved she is.

Eva Chen stepped up as CEO of Trend Micro in late 2004. With nearly a decade at the helm, she led the company to thrive amid the global financial crisis and the ensuing recession. Her vision also made Trend Micro an industry first in the development of cloud security solutions. Not only does the company outshine competition in cloud security, it is also a leader in virtualization security. According to Trend Micro's latest financial reports, the company's 2013 net sales increased by 15% year-on-year, reaching a new high since 2005. Its stellar performance is also reflected in net income and earnings per share, which rose 44% and 46%, respectively. The stunningly high growth of cloud security revenue shows that Trend Micro's solutions, backed by longstanding investment, have gained traction in the market.

As a cofounder of the company, Ms. Chen started at Trend Micro as Executive Vice President in 1988, building up the company together with Steve Chang and Jenny Chang, now the Chairman and Chief Culture Officer respectively. In her capacity as the Chief Technology Officer from 1996 to 2004, she spearheaded the pioneering development of Internet Gateway Virus Protection, allowing the company to obtain patents globally. Her leadership was recognized by IT and business media alike. In 2003, Information Security named Ms. Chen one of the top five "Women of Vision". In 2008, eWeek, CIO Insight, and Baseline jointly ranked her among the “top 100 most influential people in IT". With this latest announcement, she has made the list of Forbes Asia's 50 Power Businesswomen for three consecutive years since 2012.

Enthusiastic about fencing, Ms. Chen often refers to herself as an avid fencer safeguarding information security. Under her guidance, Trend Micro, besides robustly defending its customers against security threats, collaborates with international law-enforcement authorities to combat cybercrimes. Most notably, investigations carried out along with the FBI led to the crackdown on a massive click-fraud scheme in 2011 and brought the primary developer and distributor of the SpyEye banking Trojan to justice in early 2014.
